About US

Rooted in the Garden. Nourished in the Kitchen.

Welcome to WalnutMama!
Hi, I’m Clara. I think that the best things in life come from home.
I didn’t always know how to grow plants. I actually started my trip with just one struggling basil plant on the kitchen ledge and a strong desire to know where my food comes from. It started as a hobby, but it rapidly became a passion for seasonal living, which is a way of life that follows the rhythm of the soil, from the first seed tray in February to the last harvest in October.

What does “Walnutmama” mean?
The name derives from the old walnut tree that used to grow in my yard. It is strong, it gives, and it reminds me that the best things take time to grow. There is something really grounding about caring for a plant and then converting the produce into a dinner for the people you love, whether you have a lot of land or just three pots on a balcony.

What You Can Expect

I want to make gardening easy and cooking stress-free at Walnutmama. This blog is where you can:

Practical Gardening: Straightforward instructions on how to keep your soil healthy, start seeds, and get rid of pests without chemicals. I tell you about my successes and my “garden fails” so we can all benefit from them.

Seasonal Recipes: Easy, tasty dishes that use ingredients that are in season right now. In July, think of salads with tomatoes that have been warmed by the sun. In November, think of robust soups with root vegetables.

The Preserving Pantry: Learn how to can, ferment, and dry your garden’s harvest so you can enjoy it all year long.

Living with purpose: Advice on how to slow down, waste less, and find happiness in the simple things about homesteading.

Our goal

My goal is to let you feel good about the dirt and be creative in the kitchen. You don’t have to be an expert to start; you simply need to be curious and willing to get your hands dirty.
I’m so happy you found this little part of the internet. Let’s work together to grow something beautiful.
With love,
Clara
